Colorado is a world-class destination for skiers and snowboarders, with 26 ski resorts that have summits ranging from about 7, 000 to more than 13, 000 feet above sea level. The diverse elevation of ski slopes throughout the state presents a variety of terrain for every style and skill level. This allows you to choose from among world-class downhill slopes, moguls, and bowls; parks with half-pipes, superpipes and rails; backcountry skiing or snowboarding; and winter festivals.
Thirteeners: 13, 000-Plus Feet
Arapahoe Basin Ski Resort has a top elevation of 13, 050 feet in Dillon, Colorado. The resort offers the highest ski slopes in the United States. Loveland Ski Area features a summit elevation of 13, 010 feet in Georgetown, Colorado.
Twelvers: 12, 000-12, 999 Feet
Breckenridge Ski Resort has a top elevation of 12, 998 feet. Aspen Snowmass offers a summit elevation of 12, 510 feet, and Keystone Resort features a top elevation of 12, 408 feet. Moving downward in elevation, Copper Mountain Resort hits a summit of 12, 313 feet, Silverton Mountain one of 12, 300 feet, Telluride Ski Resort one of 12, 260 feet, Crested Butte Mountain Resort one of 12, 162 feet and Winter Park Resort one of 12, 060 feet. Each of these Colorado resorts is in a town of the same name.
Eleveners: 11, 000-11, 999 Feet
Monarch Mountain Resort features a summit elevation of 11, 952 feet in Monarch, Colorado. Wolf Creek Ski Area has a top elevation of 11, 904 feet in Pagosa Springs, and Ski Cooper offers a summit elevation of 11, 700 feet in Leadville. Aspen Highlands in Aspen features a top elevation of 11, 675 feet, while Vail Ski Resort in Vail tops out at 11, 570 feet. Avon's Beaver Creek Resort has a top elevation of 11, 440 feet, and finally, Aspen Mountain or “Ajax” features a summit elevation of 11, 212 feet.
Teners: 10, 000-10, 999 Feet
Durango Mountain Resort offers a top elevation of 10, 822 feet in Durango, Colorado. Nederland's Eldora Mountain Resort tops out at 10, 800 feet, Idaho Springs' Echo Mountain at 10, 650 feet and Steamboat Ski Resort at 10, 568 feet in Steamboat, Colorado.
Niners and Less: 9, 999 Feet and Below
Buttermilk has a maximum elevation of 9, 900 feet in Aspen, Colorado. Sunlight Mountain Resort offers a top elevation of 9, 895 feet in Glenwood Springs. Mesa's Powderhorn Resort maxes out at 9, 850 feet, SolVista Basin Resort at Granby Ranch at 9, 202 feet and Steamboat Springs' Howelsen Ski Area at 7, 136 feet.
