ski resort in breckenridge coloradoBreckenridge Ski Resort is one of the most popular ski destinations in Colorado. Set in an old mining town, the world-class Ski Resort combines a historic and contemporary feel. It offers visitors some of the best skiing and riding terrain in Colorado. Plus, Breckenridge provides easy access to Summit County's three other ski areas, as well as Vail Resort, making it a great place to stay and experience a genuine Colorado town.

Ski Resort in Breckenridge receives an average of 300 inches of snow annually. Because the base begins at 9, 600 feet, the resort enjoys a six-month ski season. It currently boasts the Imperial Express SuperChair, the highest chairlift in North America, reaching amazing bowl skiing topping out at 12, 840 feet. The summit elevation of Ski Resort soars at 12, 998 feet.

BSki Resort has been open since December 1961. It offers 2, 358 acres of skiing and riding, with the longest run, Four O'Clock, being 3.5 miles. The slopes rise a tremendous 3, 398 vertical feet. The area is made up of 15% beginner, 33% intermediate and 52% expert or advanced terrain. Twenty-nine lifts deliver guests to 155 trails. The mountain is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Breckenridge features four peaks to explore. The summit of Peak 7 offers expert bowl skiing above treeline, accessible mostly through hiking off of the T-bar. Below the bowl, Peak 7's runs consist of wide, mostly groomed intermediate terrain, which the Independence SuperChair sweeps guests to.

Peak 8 is one of the main base areas, which the BreckConnect gondola goes to. Take the Rocky Mountain SuperChair to expert and intermediate runs, or take the Imperial Express Superchair to intermediate and beginner cruisers. Above the chairlifts, the T-bar escorts skiers and snowboarders up to Horseshoe Bowl, a wide-open bowl filled with glorious powder after a snowstorm. Chair 6 ascends to the other side of Horseshoe Bowl, where expert tree and bump runs await.

Peak 9 makes up the other main base area. Its two high-speed quads whisk guests up to mostly intermediate terrain. Above the lifts, hikeable terrain awaits adventurous spirits looking for challenging chutes through the trees.

Peak 10 is a bump hound's paradise. If you're a beginner, don't venture to this peak; even the intermediate runs are high-intermediate, not low-intermediate terrain. With names like The Burn and Darkrider, Peak 10 has to be gnarly.

One tip for skiing at Breckenridge Ski Resort: Reach the base lifts early, as they get crowded quickly. Another great time to hit the lifts is around noon, when most people eat lunch. Plan your meals around the crowds. This will make your stay much more pleasant.

In addition to high-alpine terrain, precision grooming and a user-friendly beginner area, Breckenridge ski season is home to award-winning parks and pipes. The five terrain parks and four half-pipes appeal to both budding freestyle riders and seasoned experts.

From December through the end of April, Breckenridge Ski Resort hosts events, including the Harford Disabled Sports Ski Spectacular, U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix and Ullr Fest, a celebration of the Norse god of snow. Spring Massive Festival - a fusion of athletic competition, live music, family events and incredible lodging deals - wraps up the season in April.

Breckenridge Ski Resort offers group and private ski lessons for children and adults. Professionally trained ski instructors help visitors attain their goals. The school is fun and relaxed - in fact, if a teacher falls during class, he or she must buy drinks for the entire group! Children's programs allow kids to learn how to ski or ride in an excited, fun-filled way. Children have a chance to make new friends while being supervised by a skilled ski instructor, thus giving parents a chance to ski around freely or take a class of their own. While taking a lesson, visitors can learn about the town from a local's point of view, including the best places to eat, shop and ski.

In 2006, BreckConnect, Breckenridge's eight-passenger gondola, not only connected the town of Breckenridge with the ski resort, but also set the stage for future luxury ski-in, ski-out development on Peaks 7 and 8.

The 147-year-old Victorian town offers much more than just great skiing. Bars and restaurants along Main Street and beyond provide vibrant nightlife and cuisine. Tours of historic buildings are available throughout the year.

Breckenridge locals strive to make every part of your stay as comfortable as possible.
